History: For over the first decade of his life, Maksim Borovsky lived in an orphanage in a town just outside of Omsk, Siberia. It wasn't exactly the ideal situation for the young boy. Too many children and too little staff made living conditions a bit harsh. The other orphans could be downright cruel. They weren't exactly nice to him though he'd always been tall for his age so that kept them from at bay.
When Maksim was twelve a man suddenly showed up at the orphanage, claiming to be his father. The young boy was so happy to have some semblance of a family, he hadn't asked questions. The man was named Boris Volkov and he was a very wealthy business man in Moscow. Boris took Maksim home to live with him and his wife, changing the boy's last name to Volkov.
For a very long time Maksim was living a dream come true. He was heir to his father's business and as such slowly grew rather careless with money. He was use to having practically everything done for him and having whatever he wanted. The truth was that he was really no longer the headstrong boy from the orphanage but a slightly spoiled rich kid. At about 23 he certainly got knocked down a few pegs...
He had gone into his father's office, looking through his desk for a file he had asked him to get when he came across a group of medical documents. According to the papers, 12 years earlier his father had suffered from testicular cancer. While he was eventually cured, the documents stated that he was left sterile as a result. They also showed that he had found this out only a few months before he had come for Maksim at the orphange. Maksim confronted his father about this discovery and eventually learned the whole truth.
Maksim was the result of Boris' affair with a starving young actress. When Maksim's mother had told Boris she was pregnant he had told her flat out he wanted nothing to do with the child. Unable to care for the baby boy she eventually gave birth to, she left him at the orphange though she sent a note to Boris explaining what she had done with the baby, still believing in her heart that he somehow wanted to know. Boris and his wife had suffered several miscarriages and when his cancer left him sterile and without an heir, he had no choice but to track down Maksim, the son he had never wanted to begn with.
Maksim became a bit hardened after that. He still agreed to be the heir for Boris but any father/son relationship that had begun to form in those years between the orphanage and the discovery was gone. Maksim moved away from Moscow at 25, jumping place to place and investing his father's money in crazy, random businesses as a form of rebellion. This quest has now led hm to Paris to become a patron for the Moulin Rouge.
