Your Character’s Name: Emeli Chanceller
Your Character’s Age: 16
Your Character’s Gender: Female
Occupation: Waitress
Physical Description (or a picture, if you have an actor image selected):
AI: Chloë Grace Moretz
Personality: Emeli is what some would call a geek, a nerd if you will; she wholeheartedly loves to read and write. That could be why at sixteen she was already finished with high school. She was not opposed to ditching parties to study up for that math test, rather, she welcomed it, and still does. She's not exactly sociable. Despite her inability to talk to anyone, she longs to meet someone to love. Not a meaningless fling, no, the one, like how it's told in stories. She would much rather stay at home and read than date. When she's not reading she's writing. She's always dreamed of becoming a famous author. J.K. Rowling is her all time idol, no boybands or movie stars for her, thank-you-very-much. Emeli draws inspiration from the City of Light daily, and hopes to get her Paris-centered novel published one day.
History: The story of Emeli starts in Saugatuck, Michigan. Her mother had stayed at home and cared for Emeli until she started middle school, then she got a job as a secretary. Her father works in construction, and always has. However, neither of them had big dreams like Emeli.
From an early age, she had always been interested in the written word. When the other kids went out to play for recess, she would take a book and sit by the wall. As she got older, her teachers noted her talent for writing as well. Her mother and father supported her the best they could in her dreams, but there was only so much they could do.
Her father drank, and not just once in a while. As soon as he got home, he cracked open a case of beer. That drove Emeli away from him, and she barely even spoke to her father. He mentally and physically abused his daughter, and her mother was never around to see it. However, the drinking lost Phillip Chanceller more than just his daughter. They were deep in debt by the time Emeli was in eighth grade. They only way they could keep their home was by Emeli getting any work she could; babysitting, dog-walking, yard work, the list went on and on. Her mother, Lucy, worked seven days a week as it was, and could not get another job. Emeli was of the opinion that Phillip could get another job if he tried.
And so, Emeli passed quickly through high school. The teachers sensed there was something wrong with the girl who, despite it all, turned in every assignment on time. Emeli, however, wouldn't speak a word about it to anyone, not counselors, not even her sole friend, Rebecca Collins. Rebecca, though, was only there for two years of her high school years before returning to Japan.
After graduating with kids two years older than her, she was slightly confused about what to do with her life now that she was through with school. There was no way she could afford to go to college, something she'd banked on. And her big-city dreams didn't seem at home here in this small town. So, with what money she had earned, she bought a one way ticket to Paris, a place known for it's artistic influence.
There, unable to support herself solely on writing, she got a job as a waitress in a cafe. Now she works there with her coworker Trent, and does reasonably well. As has been her style throughout her life, she devotes herself fully to her responsibilities. She does, however, keep a Word Document open at all times.
