Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is Rouge Writers?
A: Rouge Writers is an online writing experience created in 2011 by a group of roleplayers, artists, and writers to be a safe haven for creativity. Our mission is to make an online forum that is high on tolerance and low on limitations, particularly on artistic endeavors. We believe that everyone on RW has a story (or many stories) to share and that all of them are of value. We also believe that one of the best ways to strengthen your writing (and to have a good time!) is to write with others, particularly in a role playing format.
Q: So, Rouge Writers… Where did the name come from?
A: The name actually derives from “Le Moulin Rouge”. Not the Nicole Kidman movie, but the real-world cabaret in Paris, France. During RW's earliest years, the Moulin Rouge was our main setting; now, we've expanded to include all of Paris.
Q: I’m new to Roleplaying. What do I have to do?
A: Check out our Roleplaying Guidelines!
Q: I want to RP here, but I know very little/nothing about Paris! What do I do?
A: I'm a huge advocate for research, personally. However, I'll admit it: it's not necessary to join the site. Our Parisian geography is skewed in the way geography of big cities always is in films. A character can walk/take the subway clear across the city in ten minutes without questioning. And very few-- if any-- of us speak French. So, just fake it and have fun! If you want to know something, Google it or ask! Someone might know exactly what you want to.. or be wondering the same thing!
Q: Why doesn't your site have more elaborate graphics?
A: A simple layout takes less time to load and fits on all screen sizes. I know that RW's layout works wonderfully whether I'm on my laptop or my cellphone. A lot of other sites don't fit on both screens as neatly. Never mind that our emphasis has always been-- and always will be -- on producing quality writing.
Q: Does RW move in real time?
A: We generally keep in time with real world seasons/months, however you can decide how quickly (or slowly) to age your characters individually. Just be sure to coordinate with your RP partners!
