For those of you who have ever been active in fanfiction communities,, or have heard me talk about either fanfiction or RP, you know what "shipping" means. As in "relationshipping"-- supporting a romantic pairing of characters. No doubt that "shipping" happens in the RW world as much as it does anywhere else. So... What are your favorite "ships"? Which pairings do you love writing? Which do you love reading? Which do you think deserve more "screen time"?
For example: I can't sleep tonight, so I'm re-reading old Toddamien scenes and I'm really proud of how the progression from frenemies to friends/allies to lovers worked out. It didn't take ridiculously long, but it was a smooth transition, natural. I like how despite their melodramatic personalities (and, trust me, they are both such drama-wh*res), they have one of the steadiest relationships I've ever written. Plus, writing with Erica is always an adventure!
I also have mad love for Lucian and Ashton. That's no secret. But what I love is that they have never really fallen apart. I'm usually a sucker for messing things up, but thus far, I've been content to have their fights be the sort of things couples argue about-- something missaid, an insecurity accidentally getting capitalized on, the blending of families. There's something about dealing with the age gap (and Lucian's politico-personality) that dictates a very precise and sensitive style. It's also kept Marissa and me in direct communication, despite being 2000 miles apart. It's nice to share something this special with her!
As far as reading goes, I've been following Maksim/Linnea lately and I particularly love how good naturedly Maksim takes everything she says to him in the Foyer-- particularly when she tries to rile him, calling him "Comrade" and invoking old-timey prejudices. I'm curious to see what will happen when she's not under the influence of alcohol! If she'll still find him attractive... (He's Ben Barnes. She'd be blind if she didn't).
