Character: Valter Gottfrid
Age: 34
Gender: Male
Occupation: Patron, Businessman
Appearance: Valter is the picture of the Eastern European male. His hair mimics the dirty blonde color of straw, his hazel eyes ever changing between the blue of his homeland lakes in Sweden, and the green of the Swedish woodlands. At 6 feet and 4 inches tall his long, lanky form towers over many. Though beginning to age, his face still shows boyish youth. Valter's looks reflect his dual personality flawlessly. At times he is the businessman, dressed to the nines, clean shaven and his face bearing the responsibility of his ventures. At others he is the Swedish farm boy; relaxed, bearded and his expression showing the youthful vulnerability that Valter desperately tries to hide. Despite the amount of business he has done with Americans and in the United States his Swedish accent is still very much present, sometimes, though rarely, making it difficult to tell what he's just said.
Personality: In any business setting Valter's suggestions and propositions are consistently accepted, not only because of his business sense and logic but because of his undeniable charm and ability to make an offer that can't be refused. He can tell you the reality of a situation in a way that is cool , collected and despite how brutally honest the reality may be, you can't help but believe that his solution will make everything perfectly fine. He comes off as quiet and un-aggressive until he very clearly proves otherwise. This side of him tends to be quite the playboy. When in this mode, he's more than happy to go from woman to woman, charming them and then dropping them when they no longer fulfill his needs.
However, there are also those situations where Valter is vulnerable, shedding his hard, feeling-lacking, business shell. At times like this, he can be very compassionate and caring, ensuring the safety of those around him and making sure that they have everything that they could possibly ask for. This is the Valter that hopes for a family like the one he grew up with, a wife, children. To see Valter like this is rare due to his extreme dislike of being perceived as anything less than strong and fearless.
History: Born to a farming family in Sweden; Valter had to work and work hard for a large portion of his youth. Many would look down on such humble beginnings; however, Valter prefers to see his early life as a valuable learning experience. He and his younger brothers, Christoffer and Edvard, and his sister, Frida, learned how to work hard, survive times where money is scarce, do physical labor and respect the working class and all the things they do. Valter was always different than his siblings though, he always wanted more for himself and would never be satisfied working on the farm for the rest of his life. He went to every level of free schooling available to him, working hard and doing as well as he could until, when Valter was only 16, his parents struck it rich. They were fortunate enough to be living on a section of land in Sweden that allowed for some great payoffs when the Swedish government came in search of places to install hydro-power units. Valter's father, having invested a portion of this money very carefully, quickly became very wealthy. Valter saw this wealth as his opportunity to break away from the farm forever and secure the education and job opportunities that he'd always dreamed of. These dreams and Valter's mooching off of his father created a rift between Valter and his siblings. The family moved off the farm and headed for Stockholm, his brothers and sister living with their parents and Valter going off to a university at 19 years old to study business.
Valter had a very successful school career, graduating at 25 with relatively high marks but really excelling in practical applications of his knowledge. As soon as he'd graduated he took a high paying job in America, another in Germany and more recently, France. These jobs led him from high positions in retail companies to seats on the board of directors for companies mining iron from his homeland and on the board of the company that had given his family such an enormous amount of money for the opportunity at hydro-power. His career has continually been up and down in terms of fortunes, which some attribute to distraction upon the death of his mother, though he can still be described as a successful and ruthless business man.
Having immersed himself in business and ignored his own family for nine years, Valter finds himself in an odd place in his life. He has very recently gotten word of his father's death, not two years after the death of his mother, and has been left with a significant amount of money (even after it'd been split among his siblings). The snag comes at the point where his father's will has a particular stipulation on how that money can be used. Seventy-five percent of it can be used for whatever Valter sees fit, but the other twenty-five percent has to be used towards the patronage of an opera house. His father, Gustaf, and his mother, Astrid, had brief careers with the Royal Swedish Opera as a stagehand and dancer, respectively. This stipulation was also applied to his other siblings who chose the Royal Swedish Opera and two others before Valter could stake his claim on the former workplace of his parents. Given that Valter has been living in France the simplest decision is to give the money to the Paris Opera House. Despite having the opportunity to go and patch things up with his siblings, who he hasn't seen and has hardly heard from in 15 years, Valter has decided to use this time, following the death of both of his parents, as well as his inheritance to take an indefinite vacation in Paris; wining, dining and becoming a patron of the Paris Opera House.
Other: Valter isn't much of an opera fan and is only making such a patronage arrangement on the request of the last will and testament of his father. So, while he is excited to be the newest partying millionaire bachelor in Paris, he is much less than enthusiastic about being a patron of the Paris Opera House. He very much enjoys snow-sports like skiing and snowboarding, having been high in management for a winter-gear company for a while. He also enjoys being by the water, whether that be sitting along a riverbank, boating or fishing.
