Character: Robert Lee Grant, “Grant”
Age: 45
Gender: Male
Occupation: Senior Investigator
Personality: Robert can be easily described as eccentric. No, he’s not a hermit and he doesn’t have a hoarder style collection of tea cups in his garage. Rather, he’s eccentric in terms of his attitude. His brash and often abrasive attitude goes against what most other people find acceptable. Having grown up in Paris, Grant feels that he knows the city better than anyone. Every bakery, every bar, every shop; he knows all the owners, the best thing on the menu and is more than happy to order for you. He owns Paris…figuratively, of course. He is also quite the charmer and can talk just about anyone into anything, especially women. However, he isn’t the type to bring women home, even for a night. He’s more of a one night and one night only romance sort of a person than one to create any reason to have an attachment. Given his position as an investigator he has an obligation to abide by the law; however, he is very well known to toe the line on what is and isn’t legal when it comes to cases and is also known for his unorthodox methods of investigation. One might think that he is really kind of a jerk when, in fact, his is a very tortured soul due to the circumstances of the loss of his wife.
History: Grant, despite his very American name and attitude, is a native of France. His parents are both American; now, retired diplomats living in the French countryside. Having been huge history buffs, his parents gave him a severely ironic name to those familiar with generals of the American Civil War. Grant blames this for his inner conflicts and insists that if he had been named something less clashing that his thoughts would be much more clear.
As a child he ran the streets of Paris on his own, warned only to be careful and not to get in trouble. Little did his parents know, he was in trouble all the time. Nothing serious, just enough to get a slap on the wrist…or the face depending on who he had done wrong.
He had a rather normal upbringing and started to follow along his parents’ footsteps of being internationally involved in the way of Interpol. He met the woman who would be his wife, Julia Picard, around the age of 25 and was marvelously happy, even more so when at the 32 they found out that Julia was pregnant. Unfortunately, this path was not to continue. Julia was brutally murdered at 6 months pregnant. It was a crime that to this day has not been solved and is an event that continues to haunt Robert daily. In fact, it’s the reason for his sometimes excessive off duty drinking.
Robert was determined to find his wife and child’s killer, joining the Parisian police force and rising quickly through the ranks to his current position as Senior Investigator.
Other: Robert lives alone in a rather extravagant Paris flat.
