Personality: If Catalina is anything, it’s tough. Though only 29, she has been hardened by life. She had to be. How else would she be able to run with the boys? By now, the sound of gunshots has become a bit of a lullaby to her, a rumble a form of sport. It’s safe to say, don’t cross her. If you can survive her dagger of a tongue, and bullet of a gaze, you may not survive the real thing: she carries them on her person at all times. She has a dark humour and a rough, almost raucous laugh to mirror it. But her years in the company of Los Garduñas have carved a sense of family, a sense of loyalty in her, and once you find your way into that carved out niche at the very heart of her labyrinth of a personality, you won’t want out; chances are, you wouldn’t find your way anyway—unless she throws you out, that is. But her years with Los Garduñas have also painted her with an arrogance and over-confidence as she proves not just to the boys of the gang, but to the world, that she is capable and at, if not above, their level.
History: Catalina was born in Malaga, Spain. Though her father, owner of a shipping business, was not there for her birth, he was, surprisingly, thrilled that he had a girl. He needed someone to keep their mother company when he worked and Lorenzo, Catalina’s older brother, learned the trade. This, however, is not what happened. Form the moment Catalina could walk, she followed her older brother around and admired everything he did. Their friendship wasn’t one-sided, but Lorenzo was an incredibly busy person, occasionally leaving Catalina alone. Catalina was determined to prove herself to Lorenzo and to the gang, and through her teens, she even aided and facilitated shady trades through her father’s shipping company, which, after her father’s death, went to the hands of Sebastian Ramirez, a man who had pined after Catalina for years, but whose advances were always squashed and rejected. Finally, her brother rose to become the leader of Los Garduñas, and Catalina made a place for herself on the outskirts of the gang, still whittling away at the sidelines for a niche. Fortunately, with her brother as the leader, this was easier than it otherwise would have been, and she was a member of the family, albeit a less active member. With her father dead, and her mother feckless, Catalina’s family became the gang, and at Lorenzo’s command, they protected her as they would any other member.
Throughout her life, she had a large interest in ballet and Zarzuela, art forms she pursued upon entering adulthood, going to an art conservatory. Now, on the cusp of her career, she is called to Paris on a mad search for Lorenzo, who, a year ago, went missing, leaving the gang leaderless. No calls, and one postcard later, she finds herself in the city of lights to seek out not only her brother, but help from Santiago, a wayward member who seems to have started a new life for himself in France.
