Name: Alexis Beauchamps
Age: 35
Gender: Male
Occupation: Professor of Marine Biology
AI: Jude Law
Personality: Alexis is a subdued man, quiet, and seems somehow older than 35. Alexis is intelligent and kind, but can be distant and too involved with thinking and analyzing to truly live in the moment. In fact, Alexis thinks about everything from what he says before he says it to how he walks before he takes a step. He’s cautious and careful, but carries jokes easily and in stride.
History: Alexis was born and raised in Sete, a small fishing town in the more Mediterranean part of southern France. His father, Abel, was a fisherman, who caught and sold mussels and oysters, mainly. His mother, Camille, owned a Sete Travel Agency that organized beach and city tours of the fishing town. So Alexis was always surrounded by the sea, and grew up fascinated by it. He would often sit on the piers and watch the waves, sometimes catching site of migrating whales, or he would stick his face in the water and watch the beautiful fish. Having always been a studious child, he went to school to learn about all of these glorious things he saw in the sea. It was there at university as a Marine Biology student, that he met Carine. Carine was a veterinary science student from Paris, studying and helping (with the aid of Alexis’s class) an injured dolphin that had washed up on the beach. They fell in love and kept in touch through letters until graduation. After graduation, they moved in together in Paris, where both of them continued their education before getting married. It was a happy marriage, like living in their own quiet corner of Paris. But when Alexis got a job offer in Brittany, he took it; Carine stayed in Paris for her own job. Alexis lived in Brittany on weekdays and drove back to Paris on weekends to be with his wife. The marriage began to get strained from all this travelling and this was when divorce was a word that was first contemplated by Carine and Alexis both. But when Carine got pregnant, Alexis quit his job, and instead went back to school for his Ph.D., learning online so he could stay home with his growing family. When Carine gave birth to their son, Blaise, Alexis went back to work, this time in Le Havre, France. He was able to come home twice a week this time, which gave him time with his wife, son, and developing degree. While on a three week long trip for work the next year in Guernsey, he got a phone call from the babysitter. Blaise was fine, thank God, but Carine was sitting, staring blankly, unresponsive. Concerned, but unable to come, gave the sitter the number for their doctor. But by the time the doctor came, Carine was fine. Worried, Alexis quit his job and, instead, got one teaching at a Univeristy on Paris, preparing for the worst. In fact, what Alexis thought to be a onetime event turned into a more regular occurrence and more and more symptoms presented themselves; Carine threw a vase in an angry outburst, but was her sweet loving self seconds later, Carine carried on a full conversation with herself, and her moods went everywhere from sad to horny, from happy, to uncontrollably hyper. Alexis was incredibly concerned and took her to see doctor after doctor, all of which gave her a large cocktail of medications to take. When Alexis found her laying in blood on the kitchen floor, Blaise, now 4, watching on, Alexis decided enough was enough; he couldn’t raise a child in this environment; he couldn’t help do anything more to help Carine. So, after a long talk with Carine’s family, he took her to an assisted living facility. She lives there now, and has for 2 years. Alexis visits her as often as he can, regardless of their still pending divorce, because he’s the only person she will talk to. Doctors are still unsure what prompted this mental instability, but they are working hard to figure it out.
Alexis, worried Blaise might inherit Carine’s mental instability, made sure to take him to monthly check-ups. Pediatricians assure Alexis that the chances of Blaise having similar symptoms are slim to none, but it was at the appointments that Blaise was diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome. Even with an estranged wife, Alexis manages to raise his son single-handedly, and Blaise, now 6, is the light of his life.
