Character Name: Adeline Mae Sinden
Gender: Female
Age: 23
Date of Birth: December 16
Occupation: Ballerina
Appearance: Adeline has light brown hair with natural blonde highlights that goes down to about her shoulder blades. She has dark brown eyes and thick eyebrows, and her eyes typically seem to have a curious glint in them. She measures up to be 5 feet and 7 inches, and she has a slender figure. She appears to be graceful, seeing as how she’s a ballerina. But when she’s not dancing, she’s the world’s biggest klutz. Her smile is contagious, and her eyes seem to look straight into your soul, cliché as that may sound. Adeline also has scars on her stomach, calves, and back from a particularly rough night childhood. More on that later, though.
Personality: Adeline doesn’t have a problem saying “good day” to a stranger on the street, but she has a huge problem talking to men. She isn’t a flirt. She doesn’t know any pickup lines, and she can hardly even wink. She never had a boyfriend in high school (who has time for that when you train for ballet for four hours a day after school?). With the type of elegant, innocent beauty she has, she could have certainly had a boyfriend if she tried. Problem? She just never tried. Adeline is a bright, quick witted young woman, but tends to be klutzy and day dreams at the worst times. She is emotional, doesn’t trust easily, has a fair temper, and holds grudges for a long time.
History: The story of Adeline starts with her parents, Samantha Roberts and Peter Sinden. Her mother was born and raised in London, where she met Peter, her high school sweetheart. Samantha ended up getting pregnant her senior year, so Peter and Samantha tied the knot right after they graduated. That’s how Adeline was born to the young couple. But money had always been a problem for the family. Where they lived, Peter couldn’t find a good engineering career. The best job he could find was through his sister, Rebecca, who lived in Paris. So Adeline started going to school in the city of love. Both of her parents were working full-time jobs, meaning she had to basically live with her auntie Becca and her wealthy husband, Niall. Niall and Becca ended up paying for Adey’s way through school, and also introduced her to her first love in life—dancing. Both Niall and Becca were in the ballet in the Paris’s opera house, and Adeline took up dancing at age five, and hasn’t stopped since.
Growing up in Paris for Adeline was always hard. She began to realize at a young age that life wasn’t going to be perfect... She didn't like living in the city when she was young. To make matters worse, Niall had become addicted to drinking, and he was not a happy drunk. Long story short, Adeline was physically and mentally abused by her uncle from age seven until she was thirteen. No one ever found out. Not Becca, not her parents. One night, a week or so before Adeline’s thirteenth Christmas, Niall drank even more than he usually did, and was too drunk to remember to be quiet. He screamed and cursed, and used a knife rather than his fists. Adeline was sure she was going to die. The plot was twisted, though, and Niall had a heart attack in the middle of abusing her that night. Becca got home just in time to call the police and an ambulance. Adeline’s bleeding was eventually stopped, but Niall passed away on the way to the hospital. The sense of betrayal in the family was overbearing.
The abuse was over, but the scars never faded. Her guard was up high from then on, and the only man she trusted was her father. Adeline threw herself into dancing as a way to try and forget the pain. Dancing, for her, was her own temporary bliss. Once she was old enough to take art classes at school, she did so. Painting was another escape for her, and is now her number two passion.
When Adeline graduated, she didn’t have to think twice about what she was going to do with her life. She was going to dance until it killed her. With the help of her aunt’s (inherited) money, she bought an apartment so she could live on her own. It had all she needed—a bedroom, two bathrooms, a kitchen, a living room, and two extra rooms to do whatever she wanted to. One turned into a painting studio, and the other, a guest bedroom. Adeline is currently in the ballet at the Garnier. She adopted a black cat that received the name Calvin, and learned to be content with the small things.
