Your Character’s Name: Devi Kumar
Your Character’s Age: 23
Your Character’s Gender: Female
Occupation: Wedding Planner
Physical Description (or a picture, if you have an actor image selected):
Personality:
Devi isn’t a cynic. She’s just seen a lot of weddings. Two hundred and five, to be exact. So you’ll have to forgive her if she doesn’t coo over your new engagement ring or if she isn’t exactly impressed by your pick-up line. She’s seen and heard it all before. Oh, sure, she is a teensy bit romantic. Maybe she does tear-up every now and then when a wedding goes off without a hitch and the groom gives the bride that look. But it’s not like she’s got leaky eyes. She’s a professional wedding planner and usually those are tears of relief that her hard work is paying off.
Outside of work, Devi can be a lot of fun. She’s got a good eye for pretty things and is the best bargain hunter this side of the Seine. She knows how to milk her connections in the fashion and culinary industries. And this girl has connections. Quick witted and charismatic, Devi networks easily and has a small circle of close friends. She's never without something to do or somewhere to be.
History:
Born in Paris, France, Devi Kumar is the youngest of two girls. Her father, Harish, worked for the UN and her mother was a BBC France journalist. Devi was – and is – a bright girl, but her sister Padma was a veritable genius, who was over-involved in practically every club on campus. In a fit of rebellion, Devi joined an alternative scene in school – one that specialized in goth makeup, smoking in bathrooms between classes, and making snide observations about anyone and everyone to cross their paths. Devi pierced her navel, went out every night, and got on a first name basis with the school principal, but it wasn’t until some of her friends were discovered to be part of the drug scene that her parents delivered an ultimatum: clean up your act or we will throw you out. Devi didn’t need to be told twice. As much as she loved rebelling, she loved her modest trust fund even more. She wore brighter colors and attended more classes. Her personality blossomed into something sunnier and more likable. She still didn’t get nearly as involved as Padma; there was no point in competing with the girl who was probably going to cure cancer or invent the personal jet pack.
Instead, when Devi went to college at the Sorbonne, she was intent on becoming a fashion designer, however, after two weeks, it was apparent that she lacked any inherent artistic abilities. She department-hopped during college, eventually graduating with a degree in business management and an internship with a wedding planner. In the last two years, Devi has earned a place on the staff of Bizous Agency, where she works as a wedding planner. The hours are killer, but she gets to go to receptions for free, which means that she’s never without a party to go to. It wasn’t her dream job, but it pays the bills and allows her a measure of creative freedom.
