Your Character’s Name: Logan Bell
Your Character’s Age: 23
Your Character’s Gender: Male
Occupation: Former pop star (member of Radio Remedy). Currently a student at the Sorbonne.
Personality:
You’ll never have a better friend that Logan Bell. Logan is open-minded, laid-back, and kind-hearted. During his days in Radio Remedy, Logan was known as “The Quiet One”, a title he bore with some chagrin. Logan is a bit shy, but not unfriendly or cold, as some tabloids once suggested. Logan’s hobbies – besides music – include photography and reading. He’s also taken up meditation since a run-in with the paparazzi took a turn for the worse.
History:
Logan was born and raised in London, England to a middle class family. He was the middle of three children and has two sisters named Sarah and Emily. His father, Hugh, worked as a nurse in a large hospital and his mother, Donna, worked as a guidance counselor at a local school. It began as a normal, relatively unremarkable childhood as far as Logan remembers. However, that changed quickly one Christmas. The family was in the car, driving to Cornwall for the holiday and Donna led the children in caroling to pass the time.
There’s something abnormal about a nine year old crooning “White Christmas” like a mini-Dean Martin.
Hugh nearly swerved off the road at the sound of his son’s voice and when they finally reached Cornwall, Logan was trotted out to perform for family and strangers alike. Little did he know that his father had given up dreams of singing when years of smoking and poor technique left Hugh unable to pursue a music career. Hugh pushed Logan into voice classes and signed him up for talent show after talent show. It was all fun and games for young Logan – an excuse to skip school, a way to earn extra pocket money, and a hobby that made him and whole audiences of people happy. It was not all “fun and games” for Hugh and Donna. Their marriage grew strained and the couple separated when Logan was twelve. His mother moved Logan and his two sisters to a house outside of the city.
Logan spent a lot of his time alone there. He missed his father and was an awkward fit for “man of the house”. He joined the school’s choir, where he downplayed his natural instrument. He was often picked on by bigger, tougher guys and preferred the company of a good book to any of them. For his thirteenth birthday, Logan received a guitar from his father and for the next few years, that guitar was his best friend. When he was sixteen, Logan’s parents decided to make their separation an official divorce. That year, Hugh got Logan an agent. The agent helped Logan get a couple gigs playing in pubs around London. Logan saved the money he earned, unsure what he was saving up for. His A-levels were good enough to waitlist him for several universities, but not good enough to admit him to any of his top choices. Fortunately, when Logan was seventeen, his agent struck gold: a big-time record producer was trying to piece together the next big thing, a boy band called “Radio Remedy”. Logan jumped at the opportunity to put university on hold and take some time to pursue the only passion he’d ever known: music.
As a member of Radio Remedy, Logan was able to tour the globe with four other music prodigies: Liam Swanson, Jake Masters, Eliot Declan, and Wes Harlow. The boys became fast friends, but as much as Logan liked the other guys, he shared a particularly special bond with Wes Harlow. Wes was Logan’s first real best friend.
Radio Remedy was extremely successful for the first few years. Young girls screamed and swooned; sales soared. Everything looked like it was perfect for the young musicians. But the pressures of global fame got to each of the boys in different ways. It seemed to hit Wes the hardest. Wes began using cocaine. Their manager tried to cover it up and insisted that Wes would get over it in due time. This left ill-equipped teenagers to watch their friend flounder while putting on shows almost every night. The other boys grew distant from Wes. Logan refused to abandon his best friend. Especially when Wes overdosed.
There’s something about watching your best friend on the brink of death that makes a guy reevaluate his life. Wes quit the band to sober up and Logan began to rethink whether he wanted to continue on with Radio Remedy. The other guys stopped talking to Wes and there was something highly unfulfilling about spending every night in a different hotel. Logan did what he had as a younger man: he retreated into books and music. In his spare time, Logan began to write songs and try to find coping mechanisms for his own stress levels.
Things between the remaining members of Radio Remedy grew strained over the years. The paparazzi hounded the remaining members, waiting to see Logan or one of the other boys to crack as Wes had. The magazines made Jake out to be a womanizer (he was), Liam out to be a partier (he wasn’t), and Eliot out to be deadweight (which was arguably true). Often, Logan would stay up late, writing songs the band would perform and trying to coordinate with their manager and business people, while the others reaped the rewards of Radio Remedy’s success.
Stress eventually claimed Logan. When Logan, who was generally quiet and well-mannered, was harassed by one photographer in particular, it was the perfect storm of stress. The altercation that followed did nothing positive for Logan’s “image”, even though Logan lost. The band finally went on their Farewell Tour this past year and now Logan is free to pursue his own interests. He’s decided to study at the Sorbonne in France to be closer to Wes and far, far away from prying paparazzi. If it’s worked for Wes, Logan figures Paris will be good for him, too.
